Strength Shoes take the second spot in our reviews. Consisting of entire shoes with built-in platforms in the front, strength shoes place most of the bodyweight over the toes instead of the heels. The result is that the calf muscles are overworked (absorbing six times the normal bodyweight), causing them to grow bigger and stronger, and the athlete to become quicker and jump higher.

The strength shoe can be a good complement to any jump training you are currently engaged in. You can use them while doing a series of different exercises such as sprints, jumps and lunges. Your leg muscles will be worked out in a whole different way than by exercising in normal athletic shoes.

The strength shoe itself is comfortable to wear. The upper material is made of synthetic mesh which provides lightweight comfort and support. The platforms and outsoles are made of high abrasion rubber which provides the durability to withstand heavy training and a lot of punishment.

Wearing the strength shoe will take some getting used to because of the unique design of the platforms attached to the shoes. Make sure you get used to wearing them with some light jogging for a few days, and make sure to use the basic beginner guide that comes with the shoes. Do NOT start sprinting and jumping the first day you wear them because you may injure yourself, which brings us to one word of caution.

There are some studies out there that claim that any strength training shoes have a tendency to cause injuries, especially shin splints and ankle injuries. Although the risk of injury is ever-present in any demanding training regimen, it may be that the unique design of the strength shoes may cause some injuries if overused or used improperly. Always remember to follow a reasonable training schedule and use common sense in any training exercise. Stop if you feel any discomfort and don’t play any sports in the strength shoes.

The strength shoe is a solid and effective training tool, and following the provided program 3-4 times a week can maximize any vertical leap program you are engaged in. Although buying a pair of strength shoes is not a small investment, it can realistically increase your vertical leap by 4 to 8 inches, if you use the shoes properly.

NOTE! Platform shoes such as the jumpsoles and strength shoe, as well as the sky king calf isolator, focus on training the calf muscles. Although your calves play a noticeable role in your jumping ability, the majority of jumping power actually comes from your quadriceps, glutes, hamstring, and abdominal muscles. If you want to maximize your vertical leap gains, you will also want to invest in a complete jump training program such as the Vertical Jump Bible.
